Forge 4-Digit Combination Padlock with Backup Keys, Short Shackle, Black

This lock has a shackle that is just a hair too big for my gate, but otherwise it is a great lock for many applications, including storage lockers. My gate is a very common gravity latch swinging gate so check your dimensions before purchasing. This shackle is about 5/16" and the hole on the gate is slightly over 1/4" for a 1/4" / 6 mm shackle.Even though it is not suitable for my particular application I am giving it 5-stars for build quality and the ability to easily reset the combination.

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this padlock. It's been a while since I've had something close to a full-size lock (I usually stick to those smaller compact locks.) After feeling it out, most of it is molded plastic, which is a bit disappointing. It does feel like there's a metal core inside from using the code and keys, though it's hard to confirm without taking it apart. I will say it definitely feels more like a light-duty lock, but it does have some weight to it adding some huff.The dial wheels are small and slightly further back than I'd like, so they can be a bit tricky to spin. Also, the lock only really works in a specific order. If the key is in a certain position, the dials won't move, so you kind of have to learn how it wants to be used. If you try to switch between the key and code without resetting things properly, the latch may not want to release. It takes a bit of muscle memory to get used to this one.It does feels a bit lower cost in design at the end of the day. It's fairly chunky, which I like, but the shackle doesn't look really thick or hardened. It feels more like a deterrent than real security like most budget locks. I wouldn't trust it with anything high-value, but for something like a locker or gym bag, it's fine. It looks decent, feels okay in the hand, and works as intended.

This is a nicely made combination lock. The lock it is replacing began to get corrosion on the combination wheels making them hard to turn. With that lock you could only open it with the combination. This one also gives you the option of using a key so if the combination wheels are not able to be turned you always have the key as a back-up. The locks seems to be sturdy and the craftsmanship is good. I also like that the combination wheels are on the side. On the previous lock they were on the bottom so you had to try to lift up the lock as much as you could and bend down a bit to operate the combination wheels. This lock design makes it much easier to read the numbers and dial in the combination. The price is reasonable for the design and quality of the lock.

The Forge 4-Digit Combination Padlock is SOLID. It is heavy, well made and free of any immediately discernible defect. With the easy to understand instructions (provided in English and Spanish), the combination was very easy to set. The whole process took under 30 seconds to complete.I absolutely recommend this padlock, this is just GREAT VALUE!

It's a little different than a normal padlock in that there's a button on top you have to press after you daily it the right # to open the lock. Good quality.

Well made, substantial lock. Easy to use and reset combination. Key backup in case of forgetting combo, or unintentional change, though it seems unlikely that u intentional change would happen as it does with "cheap" locks.

Note: Hasn't seen action. Got it for mountain bike chain. Wanted combo not key so I didn't have to worry about losing key. Thought I had a problem at first as number dials were really stiff but a little playing with them and they're fine now. Takes a little experimentation to learn how to set the combo code, but it's not hard--hint: YouTube. I like the key option because it gives me a possible back-up if the combo fails for some reason due to, for instance, corrosion. Maybe the key will open it and I won't need serious tools to free the bike--I ain't getting though my chain easily, that's for sure. Going belt-and-suspenders with key, but, given my life situation, it's well worth the shot. If this thing goes bad in some fashion, I'll update this review, but initially this lock seems sturdy enough for low-to-moderate security use. I also really like the optional elongated "long shackle" for my application.

Awesome lock. Easy to program your own code with the tool. Seems sturdy.

My shed is in direct sunlight majority of the day, so this lock is perfect not being metal and is truly waterproof as we have had nonstop rain for two days and it worked flawlessly. The quality is exceptional, sturdy, strong, and use is super easy with rotating numbers on both sides to make combination access simple and quick. The additional key option is a bonus as I have a boyfriend who tends to forget things lol. I highly recommend if you're looking for a secure lock that will give potential thieves a tough time to access.
